WE ARE EXPECTING A BABY GIRL, glory to God!
We prayed for this new blessing and God answered with great timing. She’s due March 7, 2019 and we are eagerly counting down the months, weeks, days until she arrives.
While I’ve wanted to be a mom just about all my life, I admit I hadn’t even begun to research the process. I took Biology of Women as a freshman at Spelman so I knew the importance of becoming familiar with my own reproductive calendar. I’d been diligently using an app called Period Tracker since 2007 and had over a decade of data, which was really helpful once Marcus and I decided we were ready. Period Tracker was great for helping me predict my periods and monthly symptoms, but it wasn’t really focused on helping with conception.
A friend told me about an app called Glow – which focuses more on actionable ovulation and fertility tracking for those who are either attempting (or avoiding) pregnancy. I imported all 11 years of my history from Period Tracker into Glow and it practically developed a personalized conception plan for me. We decided to give it a go in June and the app told me my ovulation window, the best days with highest chance of pregnancy, and other details to look for during this time. I also think it’s nice that there’s an online community of women at various stages of their pregnancy journey, allowing you to look up symptoms, get answers to questions, read stories, post pictures and more!
After your ovulation window, there’s a two-week waiting period from conception to when it would accurately show up on a test. Those days were brutal, as I was so anxious to find out if the app was right. My two-week wait ended on July 5th, but on the 4th I told Marcus I wanted to test because I just felt it in my spirit. About 30 seconds into waiting for the test results, Marcus asked me, “How long does it take to show up?” I answered him while looking at the test, “It’s supposed to be two minutes, but look…” The test was positive already! TWO STRONG LINES! God is good!
Now that I’m pregnant, I’ve switched to Glow Nurture, which is specifically for those who are expecting. I am pretty regular, but I do understand everyone’s journey to pregnancy is completely different. I still recommend Glow and Glow Nurture to all my friends when they tell me they are ready for kids because it’s very educational and helps with navigating what can sometimes be a daunting process.
