I keep seeing comments from numerous women saying how disappointed they were with Meghan Markle’s wedding look. Comments like:
“Her makeup was boring”
“She should have worn a fancier hairstyle”
“Her dress was too plain”
“If it was my wedding, I would have come to slay”
Where do I begin? Two things:
First of all
She made a decision about how she wanted to present herself to her husband on their special day. We are all entitled to our opinions, but that was her choice to make and it was based on the way he is used to seeing her. I identified with this because that’s what drove my wedding look inspiration. I didn’t want Marcus to be surprised when I came down the aisle. I wanted him to see me as the woman he had been dating…the woman he proposed to. So I made sure to wear my real hair, real nails, an elegant dress and a natural makeup look — done by my girl Ashley @makeupbygray. I don’t normally wear a gang of makeup, crazy weave or showy outfits, so why would I hit Marcus with that at the alter?! He actually shed a tear when he saw me coming down the aisle.
Did you see the way Prince Harry looked at Meghan? Go watch it again and read his lips. With the most sincere look in his eyes, he said to her, “You look amazing, I’m so lucky”, and no lies were told. Your husband does not want to see you walking down the aisle looking like a contestant on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. The women saying Meghan should have worn more makeup are the same ones who expect their man to cry when they are walking down the aisle. If you come looking 100% like a clown, here’s his reaction right here, sis:
Second of all
In my unpopular opinion, a wedding is not only the bride’s day. It’s about the union of two people who made the decision to become one. With that said, I was floored when someone told me, “My husband better accept me any way I see fit to come down my aisle. I’m trying to slay in my wedding pictures.” MY, MY, MY, I, I, I. After dissecting her comments for a second, I politely replied by asking if she’s single, because her attitude didn’t reflect that of someone ready for marriage. Of course, the answer was yes…and I know she’ll get nowhere with those selfish tendencies. Looks to me like Meghan took the opportunity to unselfishly consider what Harry liked about her (her natural beauty) and incorporate that into her wedding look.
At the end of it all, I would just like to say thank you to Duchess Meghan for showing the world that it’s okay to keep it simple and not be a follower. She has always been a strong advocate of embracing natural beauty, which hers was enhanced and not exaggerated for their wedding day. That, to me, is refreshing. Hopefully her wedding look will inspire beauty trends where less is more because folks are looking crazy out here to just to keep up with fads.
